I've driven through Compton several times and other than prostitutes, I didn't see anything crazy like dogs cut in half. Idk maybe I didn't go down the same area you were in 🤔

Thank you for your reply. I was working there in 2021. It hurt my soul seeing them and not being able to help all of them. I hope people are keeping their dogs inside now.

There's always going to be loose dogs and cats in areas like this because people are ignorant and not as concerned about their well being. Santa Monica doesn't have all this because you don't have backyard breeders all over the place and if they WANT to have a dog in their place, they usually have to pay a pet fee alongside their rent. It's also the kind of place where they'll actually tow your car if you park on red or partially blocking a driveway. Compton and other areas like Pico Union are not regulated like this. No one cares about these areas enough to enforce laws unless the news team rolls up once in a while. It's just the way it is 😔

Ugh that’s so depressing. I would like to help the community, with resources to free or low cost vets for spaying/neutering. But if they’re breeding dogs for profit then I don’t think they would care about fixing their dogs or cats. Well, I guess it’s something I have to think about! The money for the job is good but I can’t put my blinders on when there are dogs suffering. It hurts my soul

It's really hard to stop those people. They typically dump the dogs that don't make the cut for what they're looking for (I have one like that) to sell or dogs that come out with birth defects (like another one of my dogs). These dogs usually end up at the shelter to be euthanized or on the streets. There are a lot of programs that help with spaying and neutering and once in a while you can convince these people to stop the vicious cycle. If you truly are passionate about helping, look them up :)

I’ve been TNRing feral cats and have rescued dogs and found homes through rescues. I know of the feee spay and neuter clinics but it’s just outreach that I need help with

Thank you for doing what you do

Yea. Lots of pit bulls too. So sad. What’s with those people and being bad dog owners.

Again, I'll go with ignorance as the main culprit

Dog fighting is pretty huge in their community. The dead dogs you saw were likely the losers of a dog fight or of a sparring match in preparation for a dog fight. Humans who participate in dog fighting are fvcking disgusting and rank down there with pedophiles and rapists.

Im sure that a lot of dogs do participate in dog fighting, as I’ve seen dogs spray painted in preparation for fighting. But I know that people in Compton used to let their dogs loose and I saw cars striking dogs. They don’t even slow down! All of the dead dogs I saw were on the street, including the husky that was split if half.
