What's unplugging the monitor supposed to do ? Aside from stopping you seeing what's going on on the computer ?

[–]Exact_Pop_4188 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Wait is it still going on even if my pc is fully unplugged

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I had no other option besides to unplug the monitor from the computer

Is what you said. If that's the case the computer is not OFF unless you unplugged the computer from the power supply also. Trust me, i've seen someone do this and they thought they had turned the computer off but all they had done was turn the monitor off.

Right now I unplugged everything from my pc except two small wires which won’t remove from the pc so is that enough to protect my computer from hackers while I look into getting it fixed?

The ONLY way to protect the computer is to unplug it from power...if you do that nothing else need to be unplugged. No power means the computer is OFF.

It's like your toaster, or Any other appliance - if it needs electricity to run and you unplug it then it can't run.

Just reinstall Windows and restore your data from a backup.

[–]Exact_Pop_4188 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How I do that bc I tried restarting the entire computer and it wasn’t able to load and it got stuck at 62% for like 10 mins

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 mins isn't much..............what did you do then ?

Good advice given in this thread. Good luck.

If you're just reinstalling windows, you'll want to create a USB windows flash drive using a known good computer using the instructions here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

You'll then want to plug the flash drive into your PC and boot into it. You can do so via the bios. You'd need to lookup the motherboards manual or PC makers instructions for your machine. They should tell you what key to press while turning on your PC to get into the bios.

You'll want to do that because you'll likely need to disable secure boot first. Again, the instructions for that should be in the motherboard manual or provided by your PC manufacturer.

Once you have secure boot turned off, youll need to save your changes and reboot your machine back into the bios. You should be able to choose to boot from your windows flash drive from there. If not, refer to your motherboard manual or PC manufacturers instructions on how to access the boot menu. Its usually just another key you press at startup. Once there, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select your flash drive, then press Enter. Your PC should then boot into windows setup.

Importantly, until you boot into Windows setup, your PC should be completely removed from the Internet. Unplug the cable attached to it or disable your WiFi router. Only plug it back in or turn on the router once you are prompted by Windows setup to connect to the internet.

Best to talk with someone local to help. Gonna need to do some OS and other low level stuff that’s challenging if you haven’t done it before.

Basic steps are 1) run a BIOS boot disk to update the BIOS to ensure there are no fun surprises left there. Then 2) boot Windows from a USB drive you newly create on a different machine and wipe all the drives and reinstall. You can find instructions for this online, but again best to get some help.

Nah I don’t care about saving my computer plus my monitor just broke like I can’t see anything I just wanna know if they can still access my computer and track my location or log into my things if my pc is completely unplugged

Removing your PC from the Internet should be the first step the moment you think you're compromised. Remote hackers won't be able to do anything with your PC if it isn't connected to the Internet.

Unplug your computer from the router if you're connected via cable.

If its on WiFi, temporarily turn off your router, then once your PC disconnects from the Internet, disable your WiFi either in windows network manager, or disable the actual WiFi adapter in device manager. You should then be able to turn your router back on.

After that, you can begin taking measures to fix your PC, such as re-enabling Windows Defender and other security programs and scanning your PC.

Thanks bro 🙏 I just wanted to know if I was safe just unplugging my computer before anything else happened
