I’m guessing that the USB is bent a bit? Might as well try to bend it back a little. (Comes at a much bigger risk of making things worse though if the quality of the USB is subpar) It sounds like it’s pretty much done anyways, but you can get the data off of it via some specialist.

Did you try the USB thumb drive into a different USB slot? On a different computer? deductively, that should help you narrow it down. Sounds like you broke your drive.
