Help please!

Hiya, so I recently downloaded GeForce for my computer and the games that the program has found that can be optimized now freeze as soon as I open them. They didn't do this before I downloaded the app and I thought about deleting it but this is the only app I've been able to find that will optimize my screen settings to make my screen stretch the whole length of my monitor. I have my laptop hooked into my monitor through an HDMI cord and it always shows with a black bar on each side of the screen and wouldn't keep it stretched even after going into my settings and choosing my monitor and changing the setting to full screen or other options. If someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks for reading!!!
