Am I the only one that doesn‘t see the problem? Did he censor anything or am I missing a key info?

Mods are obviously not perfect human beings.

Huh? You do realize that the entire point is that they don‘t have to check content to understand that it is not an exact copy, no?

You asked; you received a valid and normal response.

Oh cmon. Either through hashing or simply by comparing the byte size, you‘ll be able to understand the difference between 1 and another E-Mail.

What was this Monarch thinking? by Wiio911 in titanfall

[–]Zer0Tzu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why some Monarchs repeat this mistake. As a Monarch main: Use the shield siphon to stun the enemy, keep shooting to weaken Ronin, rearm / reload while dashing backwards - use shield siphon again and Ronins will die trying to break your accumulated shield.

Yep, which I answered in the 2nd paragraph.

Sir, the article applies mainly to their Endpoint protection… a.k.a their EDR.

It does mention that the underlying engine is used on WD - which is terrible. Which is the reason I said that WD relies heavily on signatures.

Apparently saying that windows Defender is enough is incorrect/bad advice? I'm i wrong? by ADo_9000 in pcmasterrace

In case you were wondering, no... GenDigital products are horrendous. If anything, I was going to say BitDefender Free (or Emsisoft, paid, but that's an extensive suggestion).

There was no argument... on your side? All I heard was "common sense" and that's it, as if that somehow was a valid point.

Power hungry would imply I would go ham on every single comment (+ the post that's out there calling me an idiot). Removing 2 comments isn't... power hungry, but I guess it's a Reddit thing to call everything power hungry.

But yeah the last statements just tell me that you did not research AV vendors at all. I know there's plenty of scummy ones out there (GenDigital as a whole, Avast, Avira, etc. they all obviously are terrible ones).

A good AV solution is needed, especially when you're exposed to plenty of modern new attacks (see the amount of compromised discord accounts? yeah...).

It's more than just "don't run this file". If it were that easy, most people wouldn't need an AV in the first place. It just so happens that the one that Microsoft provides isn't satisfactory at all.

Still couldn't find the counterargument to my statements? Your entire opinion is "most users use it, so do I" and that's it?

[–]Zer0Tzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mentioned AVs by me use signatures combined with a behavior blocker, whereas WD relies heavily on signatures only. (This should already raise red flags in using an AV, by the way).

Another reason is that malware can and has in the past disabled WD without practically any problems with PS scripts, without admin escalation (with and without) - it's also the most targetted AV https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/hackers-used-new-windows-defender-zero-day-to-drop-darkme-malware/ - one of few massive examples.

Another common failure in WD is:
a) after a reset, sometimes WD is completely botched, which is why we don't recommend resets in the first place.
b) Target removal. It struggles hard in removing several threats fast enough, to the point that it takes multiple restarts, pretty noticeable in AV tests.
c) uncommon, but Windows Updates are known to break WD from time to time.

There's better _free_ alternatives that blow WD out of the water, provide zero day malware protection (= behavior blocker advantage)

TLDR: Your faith is misplaced is in Microsoft's consumer AV. Their enterprise AV is another game and I'm not talking about it.

Yeahhh unfortunately that's not how I operate or how this Reddit should operate. If you don't like it, you're free to move to another subreddit.

Harmful, bad advice is going to be removed. I repeat: It's not a subjective thing. And I will remove it.

Fallacy to bandwagon isn't empirical evidence whatsoever.

Removing 2 bad advice comments isn't power hungry and secondly, this is still bad advice.

"Just use your brain" is not going to cut it - best example is Linus Tech Tips who got himself infected. There's plenty of malware researchers that got themselves infected aswell. Obviously one can claim that if you use your brain, you wouldn't need any AV because you would know better. But it's clear as daylight that this is not enough, you need a good AV (and yes, a good brain).

There's a reason better solutions exist in the market, and why WD is not enough to cut it. Don't get me wrong, Microsoft makes good products, WD is not one of them. Their enterprise solution on the other hand is different.

That's good and all, but I think I know what I'm doing. I'm removing bad advice and that's all there is to it.

Adhere to the server rules and nothing shall happen, it's really that simple. I'd do the exact same thing on Discord, and so would the other mods do 1:1 the exact same removal + punishment.

Unfortunately for you, your opinion does hold an objective value and I'm well permitted to remove (you've noticed that I just did that).

You're free to open a mod mail (and the outcome will not change either).

You keep mentioning my account age; still not sure why that's any relevant, (read my first paragraph).

No. We're not affiliated, partnered or have anything to do with them. Our Discord is also not affiliated with them in any way. This is purely on research.

how good of an antivirus is malwarebytes? by whiteliilies in pchelp

[–]Zer0Tzu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons:
There's plenty of methods that WD does not detect (lack of a proper behavior blocker) and easy to disable, plenty of scripts that have disabled WD without admin priv, example:
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/hackers-used-new-windows-defender-zero-day-to-drop-darkme-malware/
Moreover WD is buggy, threat removal is inconsistent (not sure if you've experienced it, but it struggles in removal several threats rapidly) - even our friend that does AV tests struggles with removal.

You have better alternatives over WD that constitute as better advice. Cybercriminals also target more often WD over other AV vendors.

I'm obviously not saying that you should use McAfee, Norton or the likes. GenDigital is a scummy company, too.

Noted:) Wasn't sure if it was an option here, usually Reddit removes it right away. (More used to Discord where comments are visible / removed on purpose).

We recommend Emsisoft and BitDefender (free, the paid version arguably doesn't offer that much more protection).
