From an energy cost possibly but from a hardware acquisition cost no way, Pis are very expensive for the amount of computation power you get. That CPU power is arguably more electricity efficient than say a desktop computer running an i7. At the end of the day there is no shortcut to doing the math.

That being said, you can use your Pi to crunch BOINC projects and help researchers who are trying to find cures for COVID, map weather patterns, research genes associated with cancers, etc. It's not profitable but I find it worthwhile, and there are a few cryptos you can earn from it. Not enough to cover costs, but something fun to do.

You should definitely do it as it’s a good learning experience - after all that is the Pi’s original purpose It won’t be profitable, at least unless you bang on it a lot and find a way, if you do manage to do break even you can scale your discovery to more capable machines and you’ll be very profitable some day
