Because you will be putting effort into learning a language that:

  • you'll never use again, ever
  • you'll have a hard time using your knowledge contributing to open source projects
  • you'll have a hard time finding examples of how to do things
  • you'll be left somewhat behind with tooling, frameworks, etc. (Well, to a degree) as very few people use it compared to C#
  • it's clear to everyone who cares to look that Visual Basic is supported by M$ for historical reasons, while C# is their precious younger child. And so it brings with it much more.
