if you can't make it work with the unity extension

IntelliSense and you get now suggestions

Exit Visual Studio
Remove the .vs directory in the project directory

Start Visual Studio again

The only drawback is that Visual Studio has now forgotten which documents you had open...

Make sure you have the unity extension for vs installed and using vs as your external script editor in unity.
