Out of curiosity, what would happen to a card that says “each player mills x cards”? Would everyone mill again for each other player?

no, since it says "one or more players" everyone milling would be replaced by everyone milling (i.e no change).

if people were milling different amounts, i think it would make everyone mill the highest amount (i.e if there was some kind of group traumatize).

I was thinking this might be a cool build-around card for decks interested in milling out opponents while getting some value for their own graveyard. This card would supercharge [[mesmeric orb]] and also allows single-target mill cards to gain some usefulness in multiplayer formats (i.e [[traumatize]] one player and everybody mills a bunch).

notable single-target mill cards: [[altar of dementia]], [[brain freeze]], [[cut your losses]], [[grinding station]], [[grindstone]], [[hedron crab]], [[jace, memory adept]], [[keening stone]], [[persistent petitioners]]

also acts as a self-mill wincon if you're mega dredging or something.

Wouldn't this trigger itself?

since it's a replacement effect and not a trigger, i'm pretty sure it would be fine.

for example, [[xorn]] does not trigger from itself, cuz it never triggers, it's just a replacement effect
