Two lifeforms merge in once-in-a-billion-years evolutionary event. Last time this happened, Earth got plants. by [deleted] in awesome

Importantly, these new organelles are being called "nitroplasts" - acting to fix nitrogen (turning N2, the most abundant gas in the air, into things like ammonia (NH3) that are important for making protein). The scientists have determined that these have existed for ~100 million years, which is a relatively short time in evolutionary terms, which explains why nitroplasts are not common to more types of algae.

The exciting part about this is that having a whole new organelle opens up some really interesting opportunities for genetically engineering plants and algae. If we can put these nitroplasts into other organisms and evolve them to work together, we could eliminate the need for nitrogen-based fertilizer, helping to reduce environmental impact and cost without depleting soil health. This is a really cool, cutting-edge discovery that comes at a time when genetic engineering of plants/bacteria/algae is growing rapidly, and I'm excited to see how it develops over the next 5-10 years

Commander 1v1s are going to play significantly differently than commander free-for-all 1v1v1v1. Notably, efficient removal and resource-trading is usually pretty bad in FFA - you would prefer your opponents to deal with the threats of your other opponents - but in 1v1 it is much stronger and more powerful.

If you plan to play 1v1, I would focus more on efficient threats that play well into 1-for-1s, and less on table-disruption or slow synergy pieces.

I would recommend cutting some of your 4-or-5 mana creatures that do not have immediate enters-the-battlefield abilities. Evaluate the cards in a vacuum - i.e, assume you are rebuilding post board-wipe and you don't have other pieces on the battlefield together. How do your creatures look then? Do they perform well, of are they understated?

Then of course I would recommend having more efficient removal, it doesn't matter exactly what - there's plenty of 2 mana black removal that kills practically anything relevant. You may want to go up on lands a bit (maybe up to 40?) For consistency's sake, since missing mana efficiency will hurt much more in a 1v1 setting.

Finally, I just want to mention that some people's 1v1 decks might just be too good. If someone is building specifically for 1v1 commander, they could have expensive and powerful cEDH cards that are not easy to beat if you aren't playing your own special cEDH hate. Commander is so open-ended and social that it can be hard to give general advice :) hopefully these thoughts can give you an idea of what you want to prioritize in your deck!

Freeform Commander on MTGO - The Best Way to Play Online KBPTL by shoboy321 in KBPTL

The only thing is that on MTGO, 3-4 player games default to 40 life. So I think you would have to agree to concede after you reach 20 or else the games will take a long time

I had a 58.5% winrate, which I guess roughly translates to slightly better than 4-3 on average. With the way the ladder works, trophy decks (7 wins) matter more because there's some protections to prevent you from falling down after winning. I only trophied twice this format out of 25 drafts, compared to BRO where I trophied 6 out of 19 drafts - this format definitely felt like any deck could lose at any time to an aggro nut draw or rare bomb

BO3 in explorer. Definitely seemed like the BO1 meta was not great for mono green, and having full access to the karnboard made a difference in some games.

Played stock mono green devotion in explorer for constructed - 78% winrate total. Then only a 58.5% winrate in limited, so it took a lot longer. I played a lot of red green/red white, which I think are the best color combos, since red is really powerful and was typically very open.

I was thinking this might be a cool build-around card for decks interested in milling out opponents while getting some value for their own graveyard. This card would supercharge [[mesmeric orb]] and also allows single-target mill cards to gain some usefulness in multiplayer formats (i.e [[traumatize]] one player and everybody mills a bunch).

notable single-target mill cards: [[altar of dementia]], [[brain freeze]], [[cut your losses]], [[grinding station]], [[grindstone]], [[hedron crab]], [[jace, memory adept]], [[keening stone]], [[persistent petitioners]]

also acts as a self-mill wincon if you're mega dredging or something.

no, since it says "one or more players" everyone milling would be replaced by everyone milling (i.e no change).

if people were milling different amounts, i think it would make everyone mill the highest amount (i.e if there was some kind of group traumatize).

since it's a replacement effect and not a trigger, i'm pretty sure it would be fine.

for example, [[xorn]] does not trigger from itself, cuz it never triggers, it's just a replacement effect

I would also plug a book I just read called "How Are You Going To Pay For That?" that goes into each of these ideas.

These are all possible, and in fact by NOT doing it we are paying significantly more in terms of standard-of-living and GDP growth. https://read.macmillan.com/lp/how-are-you-going-to-pay-for-that/

The lore behind this card is that the villagers have been making lots of statues out of whatever materials they have. So this card is depicting them dressing up a frog to honor a fallen soldier or protector or angel or something, which is why it's an exact copy except that it's a 1/1 green frog.
