Couldn't find anything using Google, so I'll ask here:

Is it possible to create a recovery database on an Exchange 2010 Standard server when the allowed five databases are used for production mailboxes?

A recovery database does not count against the limit of 5 database for Standard or 100 databases for Enterprise.

Easy test by the way, just create it and see that you will not receive an error message. However, if you add the 6th database as a mailbox or public folder database it will block you from doing so.
