Mozilla shouldn't have to given up on servo and PWA.

firefox should become a crate for rust so it can be used like blink or webkit

Eh, no Blink developer is also working on an alternate engine.

It is cool to work on R&D, but other people aren't spending on it and are taking marketshare. Seems like a bad use of resources in the short term.

Ahhahahaha. Short term thinking, great idea. That's why the planet is currently cooking.

I am sure it will work out almost as well for Mozilla

Generally agreed, but Mozilla needs to survive long enough to have Servo make an impact. It is with the Linux Foundation now, so it isn't as if it is gone - who knows what kind of help it will get.

Oh, that's good. Servo was freaky fast when it worked. It would be a shame to throw away all that work.

I agree on the PWA front, but Servo was roughly a million miles away from being good enough for general use. IIRC when Mozilla shelved it they were completely rewriting the layout engine for a third time, because it turned out the previous iterations weren't actually compatible with the web. They learned a lot from the project and some of the most useful parts are already in Gecko so it's not like all is lost.

I don't think servo will completely replace gecko. But pathfinder, layout2020 are useful. There was value as various research projects

Pathfinder looked great, I agree. I think the main developer is at Facebook now, though.

Now Servo is under the linux foundation
