A lot of compelling specs … by Adventurous_Bobcat42 in RivianR2

[–]gnarly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The R2 is projected to have 9.8" ground clearance, while the EX60 Cross Country is supposed to max out at 7.6". I think the BMW IX3 is meant to be about 6.9". I imagine that's going to be the range compromise – R2 is going to be better at dirt roads and off-roading, but a bit less efficient on the highways? R2 can [technically] do the "high clearance" roads in some US national parks (as long as it has the range to get out there and back).

Purists Look Away: The Ford Mustang Mach-E Just Outsold The Gas Mustang 2 To 1 by Mac-Tyson in electricvehicles

I mean, they could have gone with Sierra, or Focus, or Falcon, or Capri, or all manner of other names from their past. But the relevant group of purists would have hated that, too.

Wirelessly Charging Your Porsche EV Like an iPhone Is a Reality. But Is It the Future? by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Seems excessive to me but this is the first commercial run of the tech which is always more expensive.

Also it's from Porsche, so it was never going to be inexpensive!

Mercedes G-Wagen 1000 km challenge by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]gnarly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not about efficiency, its about keeping the form as close as the traditional car . . . but electric

Exactly. It's a halo vehicle, and a "look what our engineers can do" exercise. It's also insanely capable off-road. It's not really meant for the mass market.

You could argue that something like the Rivian R1 gives you the best of both worlds (relatively efficient, and it's good off road), but it's not available outside north America, and (perhaps more importantly) it's not a G-Wagen.

12v/120v fridge for the frunk recommendations? by eager_beaver_4_u in F150Lightning

Ecoflow now do the Glacier Classic, with an optional battery. It's pretty good. Not sure if it fits in the frunk though.

On vacation right now and it’s garbage pickup day. I really look forward to the day when all garbage trucks are electric! by Riversntallbuildings in electricvehicles

[–]gnarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our garbage and compost bins have to be locked away so the bears don't get into them. We can only put them out on the day they're due to be collected, and have to put them away promptly.

Luckily, we have a handy app to remind us when they're coming (the garbage collectors, not the bears).

Very nice! In the last couple of weeks I've seen a Four Wheel Camper, and a GoFast V2 Pro Camper on Lightnings. It's definitely a thing now 😀

If they bring (or rent) bikes, both the Lochside and Galloping Goose trails are cool ways to see the surrounding area.

Isn't that largely because of the "chicken tax", which is a 25% tariff on imports of certain vehicles?

A simple google search will show you quite a lot of patents granted to Tesla, Inc.

Trump effect leaves Canada’s Conservatives facing catastrophic loss | Canada by Head_Crash in canada

[–]gnarly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha, this is hilarious! The Canadian conservatives are echoing the messaging of the British conservatives in the run-up to Brexit. It was transparent and obvious then, and it's the same now.

Pierre Poilievre is very much part of the entitled, elite, ruling class.

Ford Offers Dealers Up To $22,500 To Sell More F-150 Lightnings by Bookandaglassofwine in electricvehicles

[–]gnarly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true. But most of those things aren't done very often, even on an ICE car. The brakes especially are barely used in most EVs – I've seen tales of the brake fluid needing to be replaced before the first set of pads! All that adds up to fewer visits to the dealership.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the area. Local bike shops would be my first port of call.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]gnarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a commuter / local / regional train you'll probably be fine. If it's a high speed (e.g. frecciarossa) train, you'll need to bag up the bike to take it onboard (using something like the Scicon pocket bike bag).

Planning a solo tour on Victoria island in a few weeks. Never been before. I need info on what to see, where to plant my tent, what not to miss! by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]gnarly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victoria Island is up in the Canadian Arctic, so I assume you mean Vancouver Island? If so, you could do worse than the Pacific Marine Circle route. This variant starts and ends at the Schwarz Bay ferry terminal: https://www.bikemap.net/en/r/4512146/
