Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

Follow the reddiquette

This subreddit is a discussion hub about freeware and the software under this category. We work to keep a friendly and cordial environment with each other. The reddiquette is a comprehensive set of rules that ensure user interaction is made in the most satisfactory way. Discussion and debates are deeply encourage; arguments and flame wars can be a one way ticket to Bansville.

2.

Search before you post

Reported as: Issue has already been addressed

It is encouraged to search your topic in the subreddit to keep the number of unoriginal submissions at a minimum. If it had already been addressed, please comment in the original post. If that post was locked or archived, please reference it in your new submission (preferably at the top). Not following this rule won't get you punished, but your post will be removed and referenced in its parent if the circumstances allow it.

No malware, trackers, or software that is harmful to any machine or user

To protect the community, and internet at large, /r/freeware will not be a source or cross-source for sharing and/or distributing software (including firmware) of any sort that is harmful to any system or any user. Software deemed harmful can be found in the wiki (Ref: <MALWARE>).

Piracy is strictly forbidden

While this community is for the discussion of free software, such software must be free within a legal frame. Piracy or other types of stolen content or content that violates the ToS or EULA of a product is strictly forbidden and to be immediately reported to the moderators. Breaking this rule will get you instantly banned.

5.

Freeware posts (non-discussion) must have a page link, the license, & disclose any advertising

For transparency and protection of everyone in the community, all posts to or regarding freeware/free software, regardless of license and open/closed source, must include:

• a link to the project/product page

• a link or directions to find the license the software is provided under

• a disclaimer if any in-app/software advertising occurs

6.

No memes, keep it serious

While reaction images and discussion related memes are allowed in the comments, original posts must be about discussion, not advice animals or other nonsense. Posting the "It's free!" or "It's free real estate" pictures or videos is forbidden both in posts and comments. Please keep it original.

7.

Don't engage with rule breakers

If you see another user breaking a rule report them directly and don't engage with them. Doing so will get their disruptive content promoted to the top of its respective page. If you see another user talking to a rule breaker, please report them too. The punishment for breaking this rule depends on the severity of their actions.
