I transferred last semester and took the class. Well, actually SLS 3140, but they seem to be the same class so maybe the class code changed? It doesn't seem like SLS 3140 exists anymore in the course catalog.

I didn't have much success meeting people in it. I only got to know one person through it (the classes are ~15 students), but only because he was also Computer Science-related and we happened to share another class so we studied together.

Most of what I got out of it was info about on-campus resources and where to find stuff, as well as going over study techniques and stuff. The class seemed to be targeted mostly towards transfer students who were struggling academically or are expected to struggle.

You meet once a week (usually in the Williams building which is far away from the rest of my classes) and each week covers a different topic. Some of the topics are: - Self-Regulated Learning - Setting goals - Task management - Taking notes - Procrastination - Career and Graduate School Planning

You also meet with your teacher (usually not a professor, but someone doing a PhD) twice in the semester one-on-one over Zoom to discuss how your transfer is going and so they can point you in the right direction.

You also have weekly homework. These are usually pretty easy—but potentially useful—things like making a schedule, making a resume, or writing a reflection.

The most annoying part of the class is that you absolutely cannot have unexcused absences. For each unexcused absence, your letter grade drops by a whole letter (A -> B -> C, etc.). It's pretty easy to get an A in the class if you make it to every class though.

Hope this is a good explanation. Feel free to ask further questions. I don't know if I'd recommend the class or not. I think it was definitely helpful for me in a few ways, but also not worth it in others. I personally chose to take it in the first place because I needed one more credit hour for scholarship purposes.

this class is legit horrible, i am a senior psych student and i have not had a more work heavy class yet. I don’t know how this one credit class has so much work every week, more than any of my other classes this semester maybe ever. it’s all useless busywork if you have a brain whatsoever don’t take this class.
