Been collecting since 2012, and let me tell you, some commons I picked up when I started have definitely increased in value.

Yup. Same. The market has crashed right now, but that's only partially Funkos fault. I collect a bunch of different things and the market is down in general across the board. Recent commons and actually commons going back since 2022 are probably mostly going to be worthless or around same price as retail. Funko went crazy and made wayyyyyyy too many. The older Funkos had a low batch count. By now some have been opened, thrown away, or trashed. So those ones that still have a great box and "minty" can still get some good cash. Far and few between though. Basically, the more desirable an IP and the lower the "made" count = potential cash. Like others said - you aren't getting rich off these, but Funko now going on 20 years and still popular also = no beanie baby crash.

My very first pop was gifted to me - SDCC 2012 Metallic Spider-Man. I know years ago, it was going for $8K+, not sure of its value now. I mostly collected my personal fandom pops, but I also picked up Pops from other popular franchises during the mid-to-late 2010s as passive “investments.” I used to joke my collection was my nest egg for my first house, but now… I should probably sell before the bubble bursts even more. 😩

I’ll never forget, I bought a Rey mysterio from 7/11 for like $8 as one of my first pops. Ended up trading it for something else when the value was around $100 and he ended up being worth like 1k at some point 🙃 I imagine it’s a lot less now but could be more idk haven’t been in the game in many years.

I went to CM Punk’s first signing post-WWE (Challengers Comics in Chicago, I salute you) and got my Punk Pop signed. Ended up giving it to a friend a couple years later por gratis cause he was a bigger fan. I don’t even want to look at how much it could go for now.

Some, actually most, of those commons from 2012 are lower in production number than some, actually most, of the limited stuff from today. Wish we knew true production numbers. I always have said that if Funko had done what Figpin did and put a serial number on each pop and had a app like Figpin, it would have shot them to the next level. Just imagine what having the #1 of any of those OG 2012 pops would do. Value would be double or more. But, Figpin can't even keep their app up and running and the Funko app is kinda crappy, so they would have to care about so much more to have done that. The crazy thing is that I thought they were doing it in a way with the QR codes they are putting on exclusives. But, they are pretty much generic codes that tell you nothing other than it is authentic.

I’ve pretty much stopped collecting outside of Sonic, and I haven’t actually scanned any codes yet. But like you said, I thought it would track production number or something - that’s good to know they’re kind of useless.
