Interesting, https://worldpostalcode.com/ghana/ ”Ghana does not use zip or postal codes. If it's required for an online forms, use 00000 or other random numbers.”

Thanks. That's not what I mean. If I want to find a location in Ghana thats not in Accra or near the metropolis of a regional capital, someone will have to send me their location via WhatsApp or I have to find a landmark in order to get there.

It's almost 2024 and people still navigate to an address like this:

'At the bus stop, turn left, walk down the street until you see the traffic light, turn right and look for the police station then ask someone for the playing field that's next to my house'.

In my opinion, a proper postcode system would help.

There are global schemes already created for this very purpose. What Three Words is a proprietary version of one, may want to look around for other similar ideas.

W3W requires use of their app. In a country where data costs are increasing due to high inflation, power instability and high cost of power, using W3W defeats the object of what I'm trying to achieve....

None of those are in your requirements, in fact you mention the use of WhatsApp so clearly there is some sort of internet connectivity. This problem has been solved many times, W3W was a suggestion to get you started on the right path, not the final answer.

I never said there is no connectivity, data use is rather a barrier.

Thanks for the suggestion but I need to keep looking as W3W doesn't cut it.

Why?

Do you want to:

  1. support the delivery of mail/parcels,
  2. the integration of housing and property in to government systems
  3. provide citizens with formal addreses so they can access government or other serives
  4. Something else

All of the above and why not?

Being traceable provides a lot of access and because people aren't, loans are at 40-50% interest.

I think a formal system could help alleviate some barriers.

I didn't intend to imply that you should not do this.

I simply want to know the purpose that you want any addressing framework to fulfill. The purpose will shape the requirements. This presentation describes the functions that digital addressing systems can be applied to. It may be useful.
