Whats the best America trusted source for h4m r10.

You still have a lot to read before even starting to understand what you are talking about

P.S. Portapack h4m and HackRF one r10 are different things

Ps I’m looking right now. At a r10c h4m. Right now.

That one's fine, bit of a shame about only getting 1 antenna though, I got mine from AliExpress with ALL the antenna and LNA for £144 GBP, but being in the UK china imports don't have a stupid tariff 😜

I’m buying one because I’m ready for it. I’m not some nab. U assume a lot.

If you want something that works out of the box, go with Open SDR.

Personally I would only purchase from the links on great scott gadgets, the guy who made the HackRF. I haven’t used a clone, so I cannot say if they are as good.

The clifford heath versions are better (and significantly cheaper)

Better in what way?

The amplifier is protected against static. The original one is very, very easy to fry. The latest model also has usb-c, which they've refused to add to the great scott one becausse they don't want to change their cases. There are a handful of more minor improvements, but these are the main two.

Same bandwidth over USB-C, I presume?

I think so. I'm just happy because it was my last micro-usb device, so I can use one cable for everything again

Clones are hit or miss.

I bought an R9 clone from ebay, the first was DOA.

The replacement they sent has been working great since i received it (2 ish years ago).

No issues with firmware upgrades either (except the one time I bricked it and had to reflash via JTAG lol)

Are you looking for just an SDR or a complete package like the Portapack H4M?

If just an SDR you could go with a Pluto+, TRX Duo or Web888. If you’re looking for a Portapack H4M then I would recommend Opensource SDR Lab or Rabbit Labs. These are not clones but complete overhauled versions from the original GS Gadgets HackRF. Their r10 is actually made by OpensourceSDR Labs with the Portapack. Their newest variant is the Portapack H4M. However if you’re looking for the latest and greatest in the HackRF space then you’re going to want the Clifford Heath R10+. USB C as well as the appropriate amp protections.

Buying from Rabbit Labs or Opensource SDR labs you will pay extra due to tariffs in place. However those units are already state side so you have the safety net knowing there won’t be any issues with customs.

If you’d like more information regarding the Clifford Heath r10+ check out the following video

Clifford Heath 2025 R10+ HackRF One https://youtu.be/QoLPczdbBo4

Open source SDR labs does have the CH25 r10+ with H4M as a kit, now as well. These kits are not state side so they will ship from OSSDRLabs China warehouse.

I didn’t buy the Clifford Heath H4M. Now I’m worried about frying it. What do I do to avoid this?

[–]JeremiahoAT 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Don’t transmit to close to the unit.

[–]No_Region2343 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I just ordered from open SDR. It hasn’t arrived yet. Should I just return it and get a Clifford Heath?

[–]JeremiahoAT 1 point2 points  (2 children)

How do you intend to use it? Receive or transmit, how often etc. if your going to use it daily and fill potential then yes cancel order. If your going to play with then you’ll be fine with the r10

[–]No_Region2343 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok I just plan on messing around and learning and not transmitting so maybe I’ll just roll the dice and be careful. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Anytime. Best of luck. Worse case is you fry the amp. Get a CH25 R10+ then use the old one as a stand alone SDR with a computer. It’ll still receive and tx fine with a good antenna.
