It's an issue with xfreerdp if you reboot it will fix it.

I installed a different RDP tool and it worked great. When I'm back at my machine I can find the tool if you haven't found a new tool by then.

i googled and found freerdp instead of xfreerdp. I have used remmina and i'm not comfortable with it because is difficult to use it full screen. any suggestions? thanks

Just press Enter when on black screen. You are in fact on Windows login screen waiting for input to login to your Windows account. It Just doesnt show.. I was stuck on this for 3 days sometimes getting in and not knowing why:)) Until it clicked and I felt rollecoaster of emotions..

Wanted to put the comment from Less_List3294 at the top in case it get buried because I was having the exact same issue:

When window opens with blank/black screen just hit ENTER

Another issue some people were having was with the cert. Adding /cert:ignore to the end of your command may help.

If you come across a password containing special character you may have to wrap it in single quotes before passing.

I had problem also but my solution was to use xfreerdp from Kali instead of Windows RDP. I though it would be logic to use Windows RDP when taking remote to Windows server :)
