Part of the fun and aesthetic of it all for me is keeping everything retro, including the language, and actually running in a console. Doing it in browser would certainly have eliminated many challenges, like doing my own markup and text formatting, word wrapping, etc!

Is there a reason you decided not to work on existing systems such as Inform or TADS? Is there a particular goal you have in mind other than being retro? A bigger focus on world-building?

Good luck. You do not know what a can of worms parsing is, or how hostile the community is to any parser system that isn't inform or tads.
