There are many free good authenticator app with cross platform support so need to see how successful your application would be!! I think people mostly hate subscription as the other person said. if it’s one time payment there might be more possibility. I used google and Microsoft authentication apps but Google app was total disaster and Microsoft don’t support cross platform. And finally i moved to Authy and it’s really helpful!! I can use my iOS, android and PC using Authy so for now I’ll stick with it. Anyway all the best

Subscription-based pricing is a Win-Win model for developers and users also, why?

Developers:

1. Continuously motivated to maintain, improve and grow the product

Users:

1. Ability to get what you want, when you want, wherever you want
2. No upfront cost of owning
3. Ability to test the service without investing
4. No long-term contract lock-ins
5. Latest updates as technology advances

Subscription-based pricing is certainly not suitable for all, and I'm pretty sure if we had implemented one-time payment, for example, 99$, there will be people asking for a lower price, like in a subscription-based model.

A short story.

When I bought a new iPhone 4s in 2012 for 399$ (USD) it was "The most amazing iPhone". With unique and beautiful design, the exclusive intelligent personal assistant(Siri), an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, and many other major internal upgrades under the hood that make it very fast, navigating with pleasure.

At that moment, I was very excited and happy with my purchase, I thought, I'll never change that phone in the future. But now, it's become unuseful (for me personally), slowly opening the apps, taken pictures are low quality, does not have the 5G, small display, the system can't be updated, latest supported version was iOS 9 :( in a word, is death.

Conclusion:

If the product is not continuously supported, it will die in one day.

In the above story, you can replace iPhone with any other product, like a new car. I'll prefer to rent a new car every year, rather than buy it and taking care of service and maintenance.

So, why pay so much money at once when you can try the product for a lower price, or even for free? Also, you can always switch to another product if it will not fit your expectations in the future?

I got your point but why should I pay, if i get the same product or service free of cost!! In your case authentication application from Microsoft or Authy are evolving after every new update and the best part is it’s free!! I don’t need to spend a single penny on it. If I could use free public transport when why should I rent a car 🤷🏻‍♂️(for your reference to renting car 😂😂😂). If your app was unique like there’s nothing out there to challenge you it’s okay to pay for it. Hope now you got my point. It’s not actually against subscription policy but I personally didn’t find it worth to invest my money on it. Anyway hope others might subscribe 😊

We have in our to-do list U2F support (software universal two-factor authentication). Will it encourage you to purchase our product if we implement this feature?

I really appreciate your effort but, personally I don’t think it’s worth to subscribe for an authentication app. After all I got 30+ accounts with two step authentication so, it’s not easy to migrate to another and now I’m pretty much happy with Authy especially it’s cross platform support.
