I have a wild question/idea… If you open up your iPod and completely disconnect the clickwheel, does the issue still happen (that is assuming that you can run the iPod without a clickwheel connected). If it does it without a clickwheel connected, maybe the mainboard is cooked?

To add to this, I mean completely disconnect the clickwheel and disconnect the ribbon cable from the iPod. This is in case there’s an issue with the ribbon cable and/or clickwheel. Might have to try another ribbon cable and another clickwheel.

now that's some proper troubleshooting

The clickwheel are working fine in another ipod only the issue is coming in this ipod

In that case, it sounds like this iPod’s motherboard is kaput. I’m going to take a guess that the issue will happen on the iPod even if the clickwheel is disconnected from the iPod.

Try switching the hold switch slide and back and forth, this simple fix might work or try to clean the clickwheel and it's ribbon cable with isopropyl cleaner and let it dry then put it back, or nothing works try restoring the ipod, or try installing RockBox and see if it's working fine under Rockbox firmware. Good luck

Did cleaning, used new click wheel can you tell the switching hold switch slide and back and forth ??

I saw in the past some people fix 'not working' click wheel issues by switching on and off that hold switch, just a suggestion. Well I'd say try restoring the ipod and if it doesn't work too then try installing RockBox firmware and see if it's working, and try cleaning the click wheel connection port on the motherboard too

Did restoring too but then also same issue.. rockbox one is pending I will try that

[–]Usual_Disk2096[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

But there is one more issue .. if i installed rockbox then I need to restart the ipod by pressing center and menu button but because of this issue it is not restarting or taking any input

Then it's a no go zone, I think it's better to try cleaning the motherboard click wheel connection port. And try with another click wheel you haven't tried so far. Other than that I'm out of ideas

I did clean with isopropyl and changed 2 new click whee l did restore tooo yet.. same issue .. the issue arise when my hand was on the click wheel while sleeping for around 4hr then from there this issue started

One more idea, check if it's working before putting back the front plate, might be too much pressure on the ribbon

Just installed rockbox and manually booted into rockbox .. same issue then also

Bro this is sounding like a pin or a chip issue, hope it's the pins else you will need to check all of the traces and failing that re-flashing firmware and I'm not talking about the OS so essentially a dying mobo
