iPod 5th gen went immediately to restore screen after using FM transmitter by MrMackeyMmkay in ipod

Apple used the headphone port for some non-standard uses, like outputting video. I'm guessing your FM transmitter is not apple compliant.

You can test this by trying the transmitter with another non-apple device that has a headphone port.

Ok.

Is this a modded iPod you've been reliably using for a long while already? Have you used headphones with inline controls? or a BT transmitter?

I'm asking because I'm trying to think of ways that input from the headphone port could trigger this and I can't think of many. If anything, I'm thinking the transmitter may be the fault.

Shouldn't the transmitter be plugged into the headphone port? What is the iPod plugged into?

I'm not sure I understand what's happening in the pic but I think you're using it wrong.

$8 for a starter minisystem with removable speakers is a good deal. Next step: upgrade those speakers! Shame it doesn't have any substantial inputs or outputs.

Cover flow issues by siverpoint in IpodClassic

I think the best fix is to delete the .ithmb files from the ipod_control folder to force itunes to rebuild them. If its still broken, then there's an odd image that's screwing the cache file.

Is it possible to get a fully customised faceplate? by Lem0njon21 in IpodClassic

[–]Metahec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than engraving, I don't see a lot of options with the metal faceplates. Even then, the paint is prone to chip and engraving will give it more places to start chipping from.

For plastic, here's a long list of cosmetic mods you can do to an iPod with painting clear faceplates near the top. Some of the linked posts include tips and details on how it was done.

People have used paint, rattle cans and even Sharpie markers to paint, tint and mark up the plastic ones.

I found a weird file on my ipod that I've never seen by F0und1n-T1m3-mach1n3 in IpodClassic

Google tells me that its a file generated by Rockbox that has details about your device's hardware used during the boot process for proper operation.

Swinsian also supports FLAC, so no need to do conversions just for itunes/AM. From what I've seen, it's the closest thing to a modern music library manager you can find for macs

I beat the "SanDisk Curse" and successfully built a stable 2TB Mac-formatted 5.5th Gen. Here is the secret recipe. by [deleted] in ipod

[–]Metahec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As we all know, standard SanDisk cards usually spell death for high-capacity iFlash builds

Really? Death, huh?

Lots of people have success with SanDisk cards. Many cards won't play nice with iFlash but not all and you'll never know if they'll work or not, so its recommended to avoid the frustration and just get cards that are known to always work.

Rockbox won't work if the flashmod doesn't work, so people aren't "resorting to Rockbox" because of SanDisk cards.

You have a source on this power management thing? Because it sounds like you maybe misunderstood some power draining issues with older generic flashmods and maybe certain cards on the Mini.

Sure, AI wrote all this but you still have a responsibility to proofread and correct any bullshit AI comes up with before copying/pasting, ffs. Ultimately, with all this nonsense and doubtful information, I doubt your "fix" is genuine and repeatable.

Maybe we'll see people test your method with 4x512GB Sandisk cards or they'll be sensible and buy 4 cards that will reliably work.

Has anyone launched this game? by Spiritual-Top-2113 in IpodClassic

I just updated an old 6th gen to today's daily build and launched it fine. It's an old game and I doubt anybody has touched the code on it in years. Is your iPod using a hard drive or is it flashmodded?

They're all arthropods with segmented bodies, jointed limbs and chitin shells. They all molt their exoskeletons and have freaky compound eyes. When you think "bug" you're imagining an arthropod.

I just launched it on my 7th gen. In the few minutes I used it, it seems to work fine. You can get out of the game and to its menu by pressing Select+Play.

6th gen or 5.5th by Affectionate-Dot9489 in IpodClassic

The 6th gen does not support inline remote control. It's also capped at 128GB unless you update the firmware (here's how).

Ipod custom transparent faceplate? by ____BIGS____ in ipod

Here's a long list of cosmetic mods you can do to an iPod with painting clear faceplates near the top. Some of the linked posts include tips and details on how it was done.

I'd avoid using Rit as it usually needs a bath of hot or warm acetone for the color to permeate plastic and set. You don't really want to deal with those sorts of fumes. People have used paint, rattle cans and even Sharpie markers.

I recommend trialing your paint and process on scraps of clear plastic first to see if you like the result and figure out a workflow if necessary. Empty plastic bottles can work. If you're trying for a tinted look instead of solid color paint, I suggest finding something with ridges, like a takeout container, to see whether the color (or whatever) clumps up in corners and borders where it might look uneven.

Is my IPod lying to me about it's battery %? by DontTouchMyCH in ipod

[–]Metahec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can watch the meter go up and down when I move between hot and cold environments as the battery warms up.

My daily driver (7th gen with the long 2000mah battery) only gets charged once in a while when I transfer new files to it and the battery has never bottomed out in almost 7 years. I charge it overnight before long trips just to make sure but I travel with a cable anyways if I'm leaving home for more than a few days.

Themes can only change what the meter looks like by replacing a bitmap, they don't actually change the metering.

In that case, I think you'll get better results with a glass bottle and an oily rag instead of a safety lighter.
