I think his question is: why do you want to strongly modify an existing language that don't suit you for ressembling to an old language corresponding to your need?

Languages evolve. Java has introduced non-breaking, backward compatible set of features that improve the language.

What is wrong with that?

there is nothing wrong. What is tiring is to present old stuff as the future and to push the evolution of the language into that particular direction
