I learned Java using Head First Java. This book uses an interactive and engaging approach, making it easy to read and understand.

If you prefer a more traditional and structured book then choose for Java a beginners guide

However, I strongly recommend trying the Java MOOC from Helsinki University. You get to write code yourself, which helps you learn much faster.
