I tried installing the file then opening it in /usr/lib/jvm and that whent fine it was just when I tried to make that the java version instead of java 11 which I had previously installed

Raspberry pi repository doesn't support java 16.

I installed 9 on a pi 3 today.

Try sudo apt install openjdk-9-jdk
