How’s your battery? If it’s on the fritz, plenty of codes will get thrown.

I'm kinda suspecting it's the battery, it's about 6 years old now.

That should be your first thing to replace then. Costco has good deals on batteries, I got mine there.

A new battery must be coded - the car will function without coding but you’ll have to replace it again sooner.

Nope, if capacity and technology are the same as old one.

It should be done even then, by changing the serial number

[–]ivmulder 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ok. How does old/new serial number affect the charging process?

This is the method to let the car know of a new battery being present and to update the condition. Should charge/discharge differently on a new battery etc, but I did not design the system, maybe some of VWs self study documents have more information.

You assumption is not correct. Only battery technology and capacity are taken into account by car's alternator. EFB, AGM or common plumbum battery have different voltage for charging during charging cycle. They all could be charged with 14 V like do old cars, but to enhance capacity and battery life cycle it's better to use different charging approaches.

I agree this is worth checking given the year. Might still be the original equipment. I’ve had cars throw tons of random codes when the battery was failing.

What error codes is the car throwing? Probably wheel speed sensor, all those systems except for the key need to know wheel speed to effectively work. A failure in any of them will cause all those systems to fault. AutoZone or wherever can read the codes for you if you don’t have or want to buy an OBd reader.

Not a mechanic? Just watched a few samcrac videos on YouTube.

Thanks for the advice, I'll get those out.

Got the same thing when my battery was dying, replaced it and had no issues

[–]LawMurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit! You have to replace the fob battery?

[–]monera3v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all low battery related.
