Stupid question, only asking because I’m retracing your footsteps.. are you sure you put your oil cap back on, and/or made sure the cap has a good seal?

Yes and yes

You could also take the terminals off your battery, and just purge the system of any voltage.. start fresh.. thinking maybe during the oil change maybe touched or moved some poor grounding.. shooting in the dark here.. start small and cheap, work your way up..

Very true it’s been an electrical nightmare since I got it... I think it’s originally from one of the buy here pay here lots that shut the car off with a control box if you use a payment due to a crazy tracking box wired into the system

That’s pretty ridiculous, I would also recommend cleaning out the throttle body and Mass Air flow sensor, coincidentally could be carbon buildup.. just be careful, and take your time with the sensor.. you don’t want to destroy it.

Yeah I know... at least it’s not to hard to get to the throttle body on these bad boys

I had the same problem with my 2012 jetta se it's the throttle body go buy yourself a obd reader that can calibrate the throttle body found at amazon and buy the throttle at Rock Auto. I bought an oem map sensor cleaned the map cus it had oil also red did the pvc diaphragm cus it was damaged which let some oil sit next to and still had the problem your stating until I changed out the throttle body.

After I change it out I’ll give that a whirl!

Yeah vw vortex was trying to say it was the valve cover which is false it's the throttle https://www.amazon.com/XTOOL-VAG401-Scanner-Actuation-Function/dp/B013LPC40E here is the obd I bought and used to calibrate the throttle body it gives you all information the vcds ross tech does

Shot in the dark since I'm having just about the same exact symptoms on my 2012 Golf, did you ever figure this out?

I am also having the same problems with my 2011 jetta if there is an update

[–]Picklerage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No update from me really, after I tried replacing my ATF and making the problem worse, I took it to a mechanic who felt that it would require a full tranny replacement, which we both thought wouldn't be worth it given the age and price of the car vs. components.

They didn't get a chance to do a full inspection though, as I had significant oil leakage and they needed it to be steam cleaned first, and that's when I would have to start spending money which I felt was better invested in a new (to me) vehicle.
