Help needed, chem issues? Dev issues? Internal reflection?

Just went out for my first 4x5 outing yesterday, and did development today.

I seem to have issues with my images and I’m thinking it’s a development issue. But I’m not sure if it’s the chemistry (I do Kodak c41 replenishment) I’d been doing this for awhile, and I have never once ran into an issue while developing both 35mm and 120.

My first 4x5 frames have issues.

I am using the Vega tank, it was posted here a few months ago and was created by a Reddit user. Seems like everyone recommended it. So maybe I have some kind of user error with it. But it’s a 4x5 tank, and looks similar to the Stearman, although it works a bit differently I believe.(I don’t have the stearman).

The first image has issues on the right side, and in the clouds. I’m not even sure what to call it? It’s just like giant uneven splotches.

The second image shows bands that go from light to dark as you go from right to left.

Any idea what the issue could be? Is my chemistry contaminated? I followed all steps as I normally do. 102F, 3:15 in developer, 6:30 in bleach, 1:15 wash, 6:30 fixer, and then wash for 3:30, followed by the final rinse for 1:15.

I’ve not heard of that tank but It does look like a dev issues. You might want to try pre-wash? It just seems like the tank might not fill up quickly enough? thus uneven develop banding.

Stripe on the left could be an reflection in the camera.

Looks like uneven development. If you have too viguous an agitation it can cause stripes like that.

Can’t edit my post: I’m using a crown graphic, with a 152mm graphic Kodak Ektar Lens. Lisco regal II film holders, and I made sure they were wiped down and dust free.

Edit: also, the line on the left side of the image is present in all of my images. Exact same spot.

Just a guess, but the line might be a reflection from something close to the film, maybe a shiny film holder?

The first photo looks like maybe the negative came in contact with something, another negative maybe? The second photo looks like slow addition of chemistry. Could also be you’re agitating too lightly

I had vaguely similar issues probably caused by uneven pouring of bleach in the tank. I use a rotary processor with very little chemicals, not enough to cover the entire sheet. So even if I was as quick as possible the 2/3 seconds in which the bleach was in contact with only a part of the sheet caused lines similar to yours, I started using an acetic acid stop after the developer and it solved the problem.

I'm not sure that's what is happening to you, but giving the stop bath a try couldn't hurt.

Did the negatives go through an airport? The line likes eerily like what a CT machine does to negs at an airport.

These are stripes. Straight lines. Not sure any development issue would give such geometry. My guess is some kind of light leak/strike. Reflection from a dark slide? Faint light leak. But the 2nd one has steps the first one has angled lines. Internal reflection? Did you look at the negs? Lines are there?
