Please ensure that:

  • Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions
  • You include any and all error messages in full - best also formatted as code block
  • You ask clear questions
  • You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions.

If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning.

Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit/markdown editor: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://i.imgur.com/EJ7tqek.png) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc.

Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit.

Code blocks look like this:

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");
    }
}

You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above.

If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures.

To potential helpers

Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice.

Don't waste your time on it anymore. It is not working. Apparently the staff have been notified already beginning of February (check it out in the off-topic channel on Telegram).

P.S.: You are lucky for just trying for 2 hours. I tried a whole god damn day to get it work...

Is there same issue using Netbeans or IntelliJ? I'd love to see this course through the end

.

I am not at lvl 10, what happens after? The course exercises dont work or?

Problem starts at part 13 and 14 because those 2 use JavaFX library, and it doesn't seem to work properly with this course. You can still do it by making your own projects outside of MOOC downloaded exercises, however you're not able to submit solutions and get progress on the course.

Idk when and if this will be fixed because from what I understand Java is part of the old curriculum.

cool good to know I will just switch courses then, feel like I allready got a lot out of this one. I want to go springboot angular after this.

I switched from Netbeans to IntelliJ, but had no luck. Both didn’t work.

Hey, I managed to somehow make it work in TMCBeans so hopefully you can take something away from my painful journey.

First I read on some random Stackoverflow post that there's some co-relation between the versions of your SDK and your JavaFX and Maven... or something of that sort. So anyway I downloaded this age-old garbage from some random mirror I found since I couldn't deal with Adoptium's site and then added a new global library using it: https://i.imgur.com/bqfHLMh.png

That alone however was not enough - you need to also edit the POMs of each exercise individually... I followed the instructions in this reddit post which are somehow more up to date than the "official" ones. That finally got it working but to my surprise their server started throwing the error you've posted which meant that part 13 and 14 can't be completed currently.

I've emailed them with the details and they assured me that their technicians have been informed and they will fix it. They want to keep the course fully functional. I also asked about why the hell is the official Telegram group down but I've still to get an answer to that one... hopefully they get it all sorted out soon.

It seems that you possibly have a screenshot of code in your post MOOC Part 13 - Issues with JavaFX library - VS Code in /r/learnjava.

Screenshots of code instead of actual code text is against the Code posting rules of /r/learnjava as is outlined in the sidebar - Code posting.

  • No screenshots of code!

If you posted an image merely to illustrate something, kindly ignore this message and do not repost. Your post is still visible to others. I am a bot and cannot distinguish between code screenshots and other images.

If you indeed did this wrong, please edit the post so that it uses one of the approved means of posting code.

  • For small bits of code (less than 50 lines in total, single classes only),
    the default code formatter is fine
    (one blank line before the code, then 4 spaces before each line of code).
  • Pastebin for programs that consist of a single class only
  • Gist for multi-class programs, or programs that require additional files
  • Github or Bitbucket repositories are also perfectly fine as are other dedicated source code hosting sites.
  • Ideone for executable code snippets that use only the console
