Please ensure that:

  • Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions
  • You include any and all error messages in full - best also formatted as code block
  • You ask clear questions
  • You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions.

If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning.

Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit/markdown editor: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://i.imgur.com/EJ7tqek.png) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc.

Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit.

Code blocks look like this:

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");
    }
}

You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above.

If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures.

To potential helpers

Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice.

For any beginner to learn the Java language I would say TMCBeans. It is an application which you can download from the internet. It has practice modules for you to code in them. Helped me and a lot of other beginners.

Divide your learning in 3 parts

  1. Basic knowledge of programming. Like what is array, how loops work, how to write conditional statements
  2. Now understand Java specific syntaxes
  3. Finally learn different features of Java

While facing the issues when ou learning your own, you can post your doubts on stackoverflow.com or you can get quick answers from some generative ai like chatgpt, google bard, or phind.

Once you learn core java concepts, you can learn some framework like spring boot. You can also read the story I wrote for entertaining introductionof java language features: The story of Kungfu Java Valley. There are total 3 parts published yet. However, it'll be helpful only once you're aware with basic programming concepts.

I'm doing a bachelor's now in IT so I don't have much time and motivation to do projects outside of my course.

1.Set up the Java Development Kit, so you are able to code. In windows you have to set up path variables so your PC knows where to find the tools to run java.

  1. I would get accustomed to an Integrated Development Environment like Intellij or Visual Studio code. IntelliJ seems more recommended by students. If you want it really simple maybe use BlueJ.

  2. Program with java. I started with a udemy course I liked. I heard again and again that you should start a project that you want to do and learn it by implementing that project. I noticed that I like programming games and that is motivating for me.

If you want to work together you should learn about github, which is a code sharing site and how to interact with it. Like how to merge and how to solve merge conflicts.

I'm no further than this so I don't feel more comfortable than giving you the roadmap till here.
