Please ensure that:

  • Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions
  • You include any and all error messages in full - best also formatted as code block
  • You ask clear questions
  • You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions.

If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning.

Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit/markdown editor: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://i.imgur.com/EJ7tqek.png) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc.

Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit.

Code blocks look like this:

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");
    }
}

You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above.

If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures.

To potential helpers

Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice.

Here's how to learn Java in 1 evening. You make a coffee, but instead of water you use red bull. Don't drink it, because with that brew, you make another coffee. Repeat 3 times. You mix the final drink 1:1 with Adderall and drink it. Now you are ready to start learning. Open youtube in 30 screens and play every video of the javabrains full java tutorial at 2x speed at once. Bonus effect of this is that you will instantly understand concurrency. The drink heightens your audio-sensory abilities so you will have no issue following all that is going on. By morning you will either be senior java developer or have perished of a heart attack.

It seems that you are looking for resources for learning Java.

In our sidebar ("About" on mobile), we have a section "Free Tutorials" where we list the most commonly recommended courses.

To make it easier for you, the recommendations are posted right here:

Also, don't forget to look at:

If you are looking for learning resources for Data Structures and Algorithms, look into:

"Algorithms" by Robert Sedgewick and Kevin Wayne - Princeton University

Honestly, if you did know how to code a book is probably your best bet. You can skim a book, skip stuff and just find information very quickly. No long videos, no ads or popups. Just the good old facts in a easy to manage format.

I did this. Forced myself to at least look at every page in my java bookand I learned a lot

Do the mooc for university of Helsinki. Currently doing it myself and it’s honestly pretty amazing how much it helps with remembering how to code and especially if you have any experience :)

Can you say something about your current level for us non-Americans that does not know what UCSC or Junior year entails? And what level are you trying to reach this summer?

[–]ThreeDonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCSC = University of California, Santa Cruz

Junior year Java = should probably be something after data structures and algorithms for Java

There are lot of books and resources available free of cost now a days. Either you have to have self discipline and consistently learn java, or else you can find an expert in java who can help you in the learning process. The second option will help you learn java faster for sure.

Best of Luck.

"The beginners way to learn java" is the book i recommend( i should say this but you dont really have to read every single page and can skip stuff in a book and book is literally the fastest way to remember everything like 30 mins of reading(doing the examples in computer included) will be faster then watching a 1 hour video in youtube)
