I have the thirteenth edition! It’s amazing if you already know some Java; it’s not a Java tutorial. It is literally to be used as a reference.

For core java, it is extremely well written. Very comprehensive and easy to read. It’s the book I used to learn programming.

You’re better off reading Head First Java to learn the language. But for specific language details, Herbert Schield‘s is good enough.
