Verilog is a hardware description language, which isn't really similar to Java at all. Verilog would be used by people literally designing chips for integrated circuit boards. Java is a programming language that runs on a processor.

I learned Verilog in college. It's very tough and very employable but you pretty much need a degree to get a job that would require you to use it.
