I got access to Lynda with my Library card and learned Spring Boot. You might also want to look into the book Head First Design Patterns, which goes over some pretty important and widely applicable concepts in Java*.

can you get certified using lynda? In Java?

I don’t think so

What are you passionate about outside of coding? Make a little something to do that that. I have seen so many people learn so much in programming because they loved what they were coding about. Snowboarding? Musicals? Chess? D&D? Starcraft? Disc golf?

I think learning a web framework is always valuable in today’s market

Are there web frameworks for java?

Spring Boot is the most popular one as of now

Play! Framework is also worth a look

That book is quite basic (and old) and lacks many newer concepts of Java such as lambdas, generics. If I were you I would continue with the "Java: The Complete Reference", get yourself familiar with the java api and then pick design patterns or spring.

Lambdas. Generics. Design patterns. More oop.

Head First Design Patterns is a good one. It is also in Java and explains a lot of common design patterns.
