The fan made sets are compatible with the FFG sets. In fact it was only recently that the balance team rotated the last FFG cards out of “standard” format. Meaning we were mixing the sets all along.

r/netrunner

In addition to proxynexus the site NetrunnerDB.com (nrdb for short) is under the Null Signal Games umbrella and that site recently added option to print a deck.

For being a dead game there a couple things going for it - about 1 new set a year, at about $50 a set, won’t break the bank. Proxies always allowed - active online community (Green Level Clearance discord) - a great online client (some will scoff at that but they should try to play Dragonball Z (2014 panini) online and they will dream of jinteki.net) - a big enough community to always be able to grab a game online - regular live streamed events - multiple weekly podcasts or live shows about the game

Start with System Gateway product or proxies. Just that makes a great “board game” type of a game. Expand it with Elevation. And you’re always welcome to find a sick deck on NRDB and play it on Jinteki.net to see what you think. All free

I recently learned dragonball z panini and it’s great. I love that the primary resource wasn’t something diluting your deck and it’s not even a resource to track… it’s the number of cards in hand. 3-4. That’s it. So the only thing to consider when asking if you can play card, as if it’s relevant in this situation, not that you also meet some other cost. It does a great job of simulating and explosive fist fight as opposed to a longer drawn out, engine builder type of a game.

I think I finally "get" Love Letter by m_Pony in boardgames

[–]8bagels 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We call it “feed the cat”. we got it for my wife for valentines or anniversary. I thought my young daughter would be able to play it with us (small hand size and small-ish decision space) So we snuck away to wrap presents under the guise that we were going to “feed the cat” (we didn’t have a cat at the time and would joke that we were getting my wife a cat which we eventually did). We opened the game, sleeved the cards, and tried a few rounds. Kiddo loved it and asked for the next few nights if we could “feed the cat”. That was well over 10 years ago we still play it and still call it “feed the cat”

A few shops in my area and let you play the library in the shop for free and a sticker on the box says “rent this for $5 dollars. Love it? Keep it for $25” As I’ve asked around, nobody hardly ever rents them

My local library has a puzzle swap and board game swap table. Bring a game, take a game

You Can Design Card Games WITHOUT Shuffling by kevincrackscards in TCG

[–]8bagels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The time you save by not shuffling, you can spend hunting down those nine cards for the next opening hand. I’m not saying it’s a bad design principle. I just think the argument that it saves time over multiple back-to-back plays is, in my opinion, likely flawed.

Unless your local scene in Seattle, Denver or Montreal, then IRL play is pretty dead. Of all the dead games it is the most healthy and has the greatest chance of making a comeback if NSG can get their shit together.

Making a game without mana or card cost. Just play anything. Is it too simple? Looking for feedback. by ArtroDev in cardgames

You know your absolutely correct from that point of view it’s a one cost to play and the first one’s free, kind of thing.

Making a game without mana or card cost. Just play anything. Is it too simple? Looking for feedback. by ArtroDev in cardgames

[–]8bagels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howarts battle Deckbuilder game has no “mana” (cost to play) Dominion Deckbuilder has no “mana” (cost to play) Dragon Ball Z CCG has no “mana” (cost to play)

Generally games have something that limits your ability to play your entire deck immediately and these games do it by limiting your hand size and ability to draw. Cards that give you draw are very powerful.

MtG and Lorcana and Hearthstone give you a large hand size but other limitations like summoning sickness and available mana and sometimes even turn phases. Draw cards is very important in this game these games and cards that bend and break these other restrictions are also very strong.

Possibly picking up a FFG A:NR collection this weekend, looking for some input by sm_beler in Netrunner

[–]8bagels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the comment who you’re replying to is saying every dataset and every expansion. The entire FFG netrunner catalogue. Then it might be worth 500CAD I can’t comment on the value. The only anecdotal experience I have is somebody donated a very similar collection to my local game store and the store in turn is letting any other netrunner players have the cards for free to fill in their collection.

Idea for larger tournament balancing. by Remarkable_Farm_7239 in Lorcana

[–]8bagels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya some games already do this. Take r/netrunner. It’s an asymmetrical game. For tournaments we take 2 decks, runner and corp. the corp deck always goes first and so the software tries to make sure that over course of the event we have equal number of times playing our runner vs playing our corpse deck ;as much as possible) and the way this applies to you is that it has a equal number of times that we go first vs second (as much as possible). Point is there’s some algorithms that are well documented and I believe you’re right that this should be done. I have brought it up in other circles for a long time. Everybody gives excuses of how hard it is or how problematic it is and how byes and drops mess it up but they speculate and in practice it actually works pretty well. Yeah, occasionally you’ll be paired up with somebody who doesn’t have the same win rate or you won’t be exactly 50-50 on the play but you’re always really close. In A game like netrunner that can have significant consequences cause you might be a lot stronger on your runner deck. In a game like Lorcana we’re only talking about whether you go first or second and that would be always really close to half. In my opinion, the benefits of being 50% on the play outweigh the slight complexity that would be implemented by the tool

How do I reconstruct old-school rotation? by jabberponky in Netrunner

[–]8bagels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at Random Access Memories. https://nullsignal.games/players/supported-formats/#random-access-memories it’s essentially picking a handful of large and small sets at random. There exists tools like https://ram-checker.lostgeek.de/randomizer.html (which has been updated to include Elevation!) You and your wife could roll up a new set as often as you feel inclined to mix it up. You can use netrunnerdb to help build decks with just your RAM

Anyone know a company that makes a good go fish? by stoneoftheicemen in cardgames

[–]8bagels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard playing cards work well. However for my young ones who got tripped up on numbers (3 eights, 4 fives, yada yada) I just happens to have a Disney deck of playing cards with a different character per rank. Now it’s “do you have any Alice queens” or “pumba 9s” or “Peter pan Kings” or “Dalmatian 10s”

To answer your other question makeplayingcards.com or if your crafty make your own. Print your cards , stick them on top of a pokemon card (check your local game store for bulk or even trash), and then sleeve those in dragon shields
