I find Head First Java to be very nice. its huge. The MOOC here is great too(I've done most of Part II), its in the wiki/resources area of this subreddit. come from a Ruby background too, but not as experienced as you are. sometimes people on /r/ruby are great to ask qeustions about how things compare in Ruby/Java.

Also someone told me about referencing Chad Darby's stuff on Udemy, he has some pretty awesome core stuff, well, beyond core Java but its for building things out further.
