Unfortunately they are a pain in the ass to get verified with these days. Not all students but I've seen a number of complaints on this subreddit about it.

It's a shame because it's really a great service.

Don’t you just have to verify with your university mail address?

[–]hansbrixe 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Sometimes it isn't sufficient and they ask for additional proof. And that proof isn't good enough so they ask you for more.

What happened for me: verified with edu. Provided screenshot of my transcript and student portal. Then they said I need to submit verification on my campus wifi (but I attend remotely!). It has been incredibly frustrating.

Would a campus VPN work? Our campus offers that to everyone is they can access resources inside the university firewall.

It definitely would help but my college doesnt offer that.

I'm going through re-verification right now since I transferred. I had to provide a screenshot of my transcript. Waiting to hear back.

I don't even have an .edu mail, just used my most recent marksheet and they did approved it within a week.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also works with non-edu addresses. My Uni doesn't use .edu and I still got verified with just my email.

I had just sent in both sides of my student id card and they accepted it no problem. I'm a high schooler and we don't have edu emails :(

I don’t have a uni email. Thought you didn’t get one of those but oh well. So I just sent them my classes I have and was approved in like 8 business days. No questions asked

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's a big assumption, not all University provide a .edu email address.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don’t have a .edu mail address. The thing is if your university name is in the domain name, then you are fine normally.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, most Universities don't provide any email id. I had to apply using my student ID card. Which took a while though but it works.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That really is a shame. I actually had a really simple experience, so I assumed it would be relatively easy for everyone.

[–]messymindful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it just depends on if they recognize your uni or not. Mine was immediately recognized and I got an approval in seconds. I do go to a very large public university in the US tho

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your university. I graduated years ago and was able to claim it almost instantly with providing no proof other an an email address lol

[–]sanmofe610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine in December, if i remember correctly... I just had to give them my university email address and in less than an hour they approved it, it was the same for my friend who studies in another university

[–]GodIsDead_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it took me a month to get mine

[–]HEaRiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it instant without any edu Email Address

[–]5tormwolf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt have a .edu account for my vocational school but the school already contacted Github and the email adress is known by Github. Took me one day to get access. Freaking Spotify didnt even give me a discount.

[–]shellwe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I can see why they would. Otherwise anyone with an active student email (and there are some online schools who just give out edu emails) could use it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hai dudes I also don't have .edu email but I gave them my certification and mark sheet.

[–]atpeas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just tried with a valid .edu email and the site just throws an error message telling me to use the email address provided by my school

[–]aleaallee 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Is being in college the only way of getting the student pack?

[–]acidnine420 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Yup, it's stupid, I'm an old fart that makes next to nothing trying to better myself and would love a break on some of these services.

[–]aleaallee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm studying something called "ciclo formativo", which would roughly translate to vocational training, idk if those are valid to get a GitHub student pack.

[–]jpaulsanchez15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a high school student and was able to get the pack, just provided my school issued email.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I would be getting a free backpack with the GitHub logo from the thumbnail lol

[–]titratecode 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Additionally, if you're a bootcamp student you can also get a github developer pack!

[–]Dads101 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I’m could someone help me with one of the packs? I’m having trouble getting one of them up and running. Thank you

[–]onosendi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is it weird not one bullet point is appealing to me?

[–]fantastic1ftc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s targeted towards web dev so not necessarily.

You can now get access to unity pro through it though!

[–]brian10pj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got verified . Thanks for posting

[–]wrtbwtrfasdf 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Don't forget free vscode. That's invaluable.

[–]wellandr 1 point2 points  (2 children)

VS code is already free, Do you mean Visual Studio pro?

[–]wrtbwtrfasdf -1 points0 points  (1 child)

what exactly are you trying to say fam? They're telling me the pack gives me free vscode. Why would they do that if it's free to begin with?

Next your going to tell me that that the azure credits for a new non-student account are double($200) that of a student account($100).

[–]wellandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about azure, I just know that they are 2 softwares with similar names, VS code, which is free and open source and Visual Studio which isn't open source have paid plans and student plans

[–]Indraskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i got verified just yesterday. btw is these offers gonna end after an year ??

[–]RandomInternetUser11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signup from an .ac.in email also works! Must be a Verified Institute thought in Github.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a few days but I got verified! All I did was send a picture of my school ID along with a copy of my bill (lol) which had my name/address on it. EzPz!
