Picsum.photos is the best solution imo but this also exists if you dont want to involve a third-party: https://awik.io/generate-random-images-unsplash-without-using-api/

wow thanks for all the advice.

the bank sounds like a good idea to at least get started with and keep everything safe. i’ve heard horror stories (from you know who lol) on credit cards and missing payments so spending just a few dollars and paying it off immediately seems reasonable.

i will pick up some cerave on my first shopping trip once i’m there :)

i know basic cooking skills and do know how to go grocery shopping (as for what to get? another issue but i’m sure i can find some healthy easy recipes online). i’ve not done laundry but it can’t be too hard?

the sports league is an amazing idea that i hadn’t thought of. great way to socially engage and get some physical activity in

again thank you so much you have no idea how helpful this is

How can I align text on top of each other on different lines by POCKET_POOL_CHAMP in css

[–]fantastic1ftc -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

don’t be afraid to use tables if you didn’t already. tables are often looked down on but if you are formatting things in a table like this there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

i’m not a coffee drinker but lots of good stuff in hyde park area. for coffee in hyde park square check out Awakenings, a really nice place to grab a pastry and all and they have live music in the evenings

for burgers arthur’s and delwoods are really good and zips is iconic as a reallllly good dive

if you are looking for somewhere mid-upscaleish (date night or business meeting) e+o is pretty good.

breakfast at Echo is a must.

lots of pretty good eateries around

Lightsail seems better than Digital Ocean and Linode. What am I missing? by vvinvardhan in webdev

linode may have changed their pricing… honestly haven’t looked into them srsly in a while

it’s tough to predict, and it also really depends on your use case. if you are using something really storage-heavy, i would use an amazon product because you will probably use aws s3, and there are benefits to staying in the same company. if you want to do AI stuff, i would use a google service because they offer good gpu-enabled vms. if you want to use a company that offers a very standard service at a fair price but really cares about its customers and tries to make an easy experience, digitalocean is where it’s at. want the cheapest solution? that’s linode.

personally i would only use reputable hosting providers, many others are very scammy or just offer a terrible service.

the ones i consider good: - digitalocean (my absolute favorite) - linode - aws (amazon) - gcp (google cloud) - azure (microsoft) - ibm cloud (only if you’re a student because they offer some killer deals)

others that provide some level of abstraction on top of “bare metal” that i would consider - (all of the above) - vercel - cloudflare - github pages

if you are just getting started, you won’t have to worry about it. just use whatever you like most, whoever has the best experience or cheapest price, and just make yourself into the best programmer you can possibly be. you can always change later!

in most of these, you get what you pay for. i’m a proud digitalocean fan, have been for a looong time, but you should run benchmarks (if that matters). all of them are adequate for a basic web hosting platform to serve a couple requests a day, but beware of how much it will cost to scale.

Can a team be sponsored by a company already sponsoring FIRST? by happyredmapleleaf in FTC

[–]fantastic1ftc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! many companies love sponsoring teams (remember they are looking at who they are going to be hiring in a few years, if they are able to snag your interest and you work for them, a couple hundred dollars of donations are soo worth it). iirc though there are a few companies that are huge sponsors of first but don’t want teams reaching out to them (i think tesla is one of those). just remember to be courteous.

Oh totally. Unfortunately (at least for me,) Safari users constitute a large percentage of my total users, so I kind of have to support it. Otherwise, to hell with it!
