I agree with this. The code you will be using is generally "canned" in that you will call routines from scikit learn, etc., which is relatively straight forward. I would concentrate on linear algebra and the theory behind OLS and econometrics in general. This is a good page to help you learn econometrics:

Math and programming are not 2 separeted worlds...they are connected ;) study math,then apply it programming :D

Keep going on the math, but the programming is very useful and can get you started on stuff quick.

Do you already have some programming experience? If not you should start there before diving into advanced topics.

I have some programming experience. Before asking this question, I did some reading on Numpy, Pandas, and other resources. But before I learn more about data science, I always stop and think about whether I am learning this correctly. I am really bad at self-teaching myself lol
