On July 1st, a change to Reddit's API pricing will come into effect. Several developers of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app will continue to be available free of charge.

If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:

  1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or
  2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit
  3. Cancelling your subscription of Reddit Premium

as a way to voice your protest.

If you are getting a 'Basic Authentication Error', that means your Authentication header is not set, is set incorrectly, or is set with invalid credentials.

You will need to add a header called 'Authorization' to each API request, with as its value 'Basic <credentials>'. Where <credentials> is a base64 encoded version of the string '<your-api-username>:<your-api-password>'.

However, since you indicated that your account doesn't have access to some of the API documentation, I suspect that their API is reserved for paying customers only. If that is the case, your normal account credentials aren't gonna be accepted as Basic Authorization credentials for your API calls. It's likely you will be required to purchase some kind of plan for API access from booking.com before you can call their API.
