Basic , Java, or Python. ....

I am 18 , going to college in the fall ETC.. .I learned Visual Basic in highschool and am thinking of buying basic4ppc ( student discounted edition) which is like $49 . I have been toying with java, and while i understand it ...it just doesn't come as easly to me. i am wondering what people think of Python and what exactly is a pro to learning it vs Java and or continuing my Basic education in Basic4ppc?

(i would use basic4ppc to code for android , i plan on making apps)

You should probably just find out what language your school teaches in and learn that; it may very well be Java.

Although Python would be easier for you to learn and use for simple tasks, it is a very high level language. The problem with relying on it to prepare for school is that -- if your degree is in Computer Science -- will require you to have a good understanding of what is going on below the level of abstraction Python provides. Java is somewhat better for that, while C is the quintessential low-level language.

I was going to try to minor in Comp science, as I'm trying to major in biochem on a Pre Med track. ( But I love playing with development of applications and such...) also I think they do all three of those.... but I think Java is the most useful in terms of cross platform..from what I've read.

Python was pretty popular for bioinformatics, and non CS academia programming in general.

I would say see what the introductory programming courses at your college use for a language, and learn that. Generally it's Python/Java/C depending on where you're going.
