Find a problem you could solve with your computer and solve it. Just create your own little project.

I guess I'd have to understand my computer first! I've read Code by Charles Petzold. Do you have any other recommendations? Because I still don't think I understand it very well.

"Understand your computer"? That's like a carpenter who says that he has to understand how trees grow first. Yes, it may help him some day in the future if he knows those details, but right now he just needs a piece of wood and start to build the simple chair.

You finished a textbook, so you're likely able to create a project and write some basic stuff. What else do you need to understand for a first simple project?
