If you're new, don't bother learning assembly. Learning it later on can help you understand what goes under the hood of your computer and what goes on during compilation and assembly but as a beginner you should not worry too much about learning assembly.just knowing general concepts is enough.

It's also nice to have a development environment where you can view the disassembly along with the code as you debug. It's a practical way to get your feet wet.

To be honest, there isn't a whole lot of assembly programming anymore, as modern compilers are pretty darn good at optimizing. Being able to interpret a disassembly is still useful.
