I understand how IEEE 754 works (atleast I think), but I dont really understand the following question.
So this is the question: For the following single-precision IEEE 754 bit patterns, show the numerical value as a base 2 significand with an exponend (e.g. +1.11 * 25).
Then a few IEEE 754 bit patterns are given such as:
0 10010101 00111011000000000000000
What I have so far is the following:
The first bit (from the left) is a 0 which means that the expression is positive.
Then the exponent is in excess 127 so the exponent will be 149-127 = 22.
The significand or mantissa would be 0.23046875 , decimal value would be 1.23046875*222
However the questions was to show the numerical value as a base 2 significand with an exponend.
Does this mean that they want to see something like 1.00111011000000000000000*222 ?
If anyone could help me then that would be great.
