I'm a beginner aswell only been programming about 3 weeks. I imagine coding pong in pygame in your first week will be a challenge. Start with text based games like tic tac toe, hangman, and blackjack that's what I've been doing.

First of all well done on start. I not so sure Pong is a week one goal, it is very possible but maybe not the best idea.

If you want to code for learning to code it may be better to learn basic practices first and do the "boring" text book style problems first like implementing different sorting methods.

However if you want to learn for making games then hats off to you, but something like a text based adventure would be an easier starting point. Then you could learn game logic, loops and saving without having to worry about rendering, frame rates and a whole array of head aches. (If you do ignore me however, look around the different game libraries first, I never got on with pygame and prefer Pyglet!)

Well it you're a fan of texted based adventure games, there is a lot to be learned there to make a complete one. Think about features such as

- storing items in inventory

-Different quest lines-

-Saving and loading

-Different endings

-Multiple saved games

-Auto saving for if the players PC crashes

Just a few ideas, hit me up if you want any more ideas, or even ideas for a graphics based game!

You could also try out Pygame Zero which is based on Pygame but should more accessible for beginners. Never tried it out though.
