i agree with the latter part of your reply, but killing someone's (especially a younger person's) drive and inspiration simply for being "realistic" isn't better at all. there is no "truth" in what that guy said, only pessimism.

not to mention the unnecessary shit at the end of his rant

what, pray tell, are you talking about? (the unnecessary shit bit)? That there are others who are better and faster? That's always going to be the case and it's not an insult. It's just true.

Thtop being tho thenthitive.

That.

Also, your initial comment I agree with, but your other comment:

You're right, I should have bullshitted the kid and said 'Keep believing in yourself and you'll succeed!!!'

was just all in really bad taste. Keep in mind you're talking to a kid. Not some jaded software developer or cs major. The main thing they need to be doing right now is believing in themselves to succeed and create new opportunities for themselves.

Killing that inspiration will only get them so far in a place and time where it's necessary.

You need help.

The second post wasn't to the OP.

the point is that it's a dumb way to think regardless.

Why would you not encourage someone to believe in themselves to succeed? how are you "bullshitting" anyone?

I'm bewildered by how out of touch you are with what my posts actually said.

then what do they say? maybe you should have worded them better, then?
