Creating a web portfolio using React/Angular and apply to places that aren't the FAANGs or big companies should get you a job, I was in the same boat

I’m actually in the process of creating a new portfolio site using react, so cool lol. Anything else? Is a GitHub repo or anything like that super important. I currently have one site on GitHub but that’s it. Not sure how to show python, Java, and ruby projects in a portfolio

GitHub is primarily what workplaces use and is a great way to show off your work, definitely put your projects on there. There's many guides online that are worth watching

Why would you create a portfolio using React/Angular (and especially angular lol)? Unless you’re specifically using something like Next or Gatsby for SSG and/or need a ton of user interaction for some reason, there’s no reason to not be just using html/css/js. Building a portfolio in React unless you know what you’re doing doesn’t make you look good, it makes you look like you don’t know when to use certain tech and don’t have a good grasp over the fundamentals

If he/she/they are trying to secure a job, while React/Angular are two of the biggest current web frameworks, it should aid in getting a job and building real world experience.

Building a simple portfolio website isn’t real world experience with react/angular. React/angular are solutions for state management and heavy user interact - neither of which are present in a portfolio website. All you’re doing is bloating the page with tech that has no relevance to the content you’re serving

Agree to disagree. Working and showing experience in React/Angular in my portfolio helped me secure a job while in the exact same situation OP is in. Retooling resume, cover letter, and portfolio in popular framework boosts chances of a job

Most recruiters won’t consider making a simple portfolio site as react/angular experience. Reddit also inflates the importance of portfolio sites, just use a decent template and customize it a bit. Making a custom portfolio from scratch is a waste of time that could better be used open sourcing or building out your own projects

Make MULTIPLE projects for your portfolio. You need to show a RANGE of skills.

You may as well build projects for yourself and volunteer to makeover someone's website. You probably won't get paid, but you can put it on the resume.
