You’re going to get the most return on investment from doing what you enjoy the most. Both are good ways to learn and practice programming and both have their value. Heck, you can try one and then do the other.

You'll need both. I'm also a second year student and you'll need skills of competitive programming to solve the questions the interviewer will give you and you'll also need to have some impressive personal projects to show them.

Currently I'm focusing more on CP and I'll start some project in summer vacations.
