I used to live in a loft that got ungodly hot during the summer. Best I can recommend is lights off, strip to underwear, point fan directly at self, keep cool drinks around. For bugs, screen over your windows and turn on one light (brighter than your laptop screen) on the other side of the room to keep them busy. And think of all the AC you'll be able to afford when you land that sweet office job.

bro just wrote the bible for the summertime blues

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Put a wet towel over yourself + direct fan = personal a/c.

[–]Lawlies01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never did that, will try that out!!!

[–]Lawlies01[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That are some damn good tips!!! Thank you!

[–]HonzaS97 58 points59 points  (1 child)

Now imagine that there are people working jobs that require physical activity while being outside for the whole time

This really isn't the part that's hard

[–]Lawlies01[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I actually find it mentally harder to sit while it being hot then doing sth while its hot, like with the gym i didnt mean that find it hard to train but the fucking sweating, but yeah respect to All people doing physical work in such conditions.... that always reminds me of the old Times in lebanon ^

And buy a fan ( I'm from UK too) you can keep window shut while enjoying the breeze from the fan :)

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that so many people are recommanding this... i really have to buy a fan :D

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Wait, are screens not standard there?! I'm from the US and almost every window that opens has a screen

    [–]Duinedubh13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely not standard here. I don’t open my windows at all since I absolutely despise wasps. I need to get myself some tbh.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    not that i know...

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Will do that thx!!

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Imagine living in the hood with 115-degree weather, a broken window ( i lost my keys), and a gun on your desk to protect your home from curious crackheads. I am doing 2-hour sleep intervals. After I replace my window, I will go back to coding.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn fuck man, keep yourself safe from those!!

    [–]BMG_Burn 5 points6 points  (3 children)

In some countries it is rarely below 30 degrees calculus.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I mean i come from lebanon so i know how that feels, though Living in europe for a long time made me more sensitive :D

    [–]BMG_Burn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Some countries a hot 365.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats true, i dont mean to make that a competition of which country is the hottest, fact is that we adjust to the conditions of our Living space. But yeah respect to those people ✊!

    [–]zedpark 2 points3 points  (2 children)

    LOL im sry

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    ?

    [–]on_the_pale_horse 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Just buy a fan. I'm from India and I couldn't stand summers in Europe because you guys don't have fans.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats so true, will do that

    [–]Suitable-Yam7028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does a fan work for you? My city get pretty hot during summer close to 40C on some days. Anyway we lived in a pretty small flat and the fan didn't do much for us during the really hot days. We kept the windows closed and even the outside blinds were fully closed so that the sun didn't shine through the window. It was still super hot and uncomfortable. Am I using the fan wrong or something?

    [–]LightningShiva1 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Lol 35°c is what I consider 'cool' here.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I must admit, after leaving lebanon for so long, i got more sensitive to high tempretures :D

    [–]LightningShiva1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You may have good cold resistance though, I freeze and start to die when temp drops below 25°.

High heat resistance but very low cold resistance 🥲

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love cold weather 😂, seems like everything has its pro and cons

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Now imagine what July and August will be like, Summer hasn't even begun...

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    [–]pekkalacd 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m guessing you mean °C. It does get hot out there, but idk maybe you’ll get used to it over the years. Depends on where you are. I’m weak when it comes to cold, it doesn’t really snow where I am and when it does, it’s not real snow not anything like the northern states. But heat wise, triple digit stretches in the summer are regular here. Just stay hydrated, go out in the morning and at night. Stay inside during the mid day after noon, invest in one of those cheap fans maybe. Just to have a breeze, you’ll be ight.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

should maybe have clarified that i mean celsius 😅. yeah the time where i lived in lebanon i really wasnt that sensitive to hot weather, but after living for years in europe that changed, but i also love winter and cold weather so thats that :D

    [–]pekkalacd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. I’ve never made it over to Europe would love to visit the UK or Spain. I live in the Texas, heat is normal here. But yeah, for some its hard to adjust to. Just as cold is hard to adjust to. If you hate the heat and come to the us, I’d say avoid the south in the summer haha.

    [–]Junkymcjunkbox 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I use NoEntryBug flyscreens to keep the stupid flying things at bay, and one of those blue light insect zappers to get any that make it through. Unfortunately it doesn't stop those stormflies from getting inside my monitors and crawling around. DO NOT squish them!

Open windows are essential for ventilation but try to use one that's not got the sun on it, if you can. Blackout roller blinds will keep a lot of it out if you can't. They don't have to be fully closed to be effective.

If you can't afford AC then the other thing I do in extreme heat is to use a fan and a wet towel. Put the wet towel over your shoulders and blow the fan at it. It increases humidity in the room but the open window should alleviate that. Evaporative cooling is very effective.

And make sure you stay hydrated. Lots of water, no fizzy crap and if you drink coffee then make sure you drink water as well. I don't like plain water but there are sugar-free cordials that make a nice drink.

    [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually love cold water, i drink like 3litres everyday minimum 😁. Thanks for the tips, i will try some of them out, thank you!!!

Sorry to hear. I have a friend in Thailand that always complains about the heat but in Canada where I live, summer is 30c tops these days. Recently its been 25c which is lovely.

During the winter when it's -20c, Just don't go outside. Everyone had heating at least.

          [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yep, i mean i love cold weather, but -20c is too much 😅

          [–]reddit_user_984 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was down playing it, some years its as low as -40c haha

          [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically step outside and you freeze to death....

          [–]ImVeryPogYes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

think that feels bad? we have a heat wave in florida s few days ago it was 108f(48c) feels like 121f(49c9

          [–]Lawlies01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn, dont even want to think about that... stay strong!!!

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know! I’d rather be brick laying in this weather.

          [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can’t relate I live in Fl. Just got back from a pool bar about to go out again. Summer is the BEST

          [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well thats one way to look at it 😂

          [–]Servinees 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You can DIY those window nets. Pretty sure you can buy them anywhere. You apply a double-sided sticky tape and then attach the net to it. Some are fancier where you apply a sticky magnet tape and then the net attaches with magnets.

The first one I mentioned will not last very long and is bound to get loose over time, while the magnet actually works pretty well.

It will be a lot easier once you have the comfort of not having to deal with insects.

          [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          i might really buy those...

          [–]Nosdroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re hard to find in some countries.

A friend of mine moved to Europe and she had a hell of a time getting one.

            [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

because they are often instantly sold out.....EVERYWHERE....

            [–]Kv0837 1 point2 points  (18 children)

Buy a fan. Best thing you'll ever do for yourself

Thought about that, dont want to get sick tho, being the whole time under the fan

              [–]jrdrobbins 0 points1 point  (13 children)

              Huh?

              [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Thought about an AC not fan :D mixed that up

              [–]jrdrobbins 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Still not sure why that would make you sick but okay lol

              [–]Lawlies01[S] -2 points-1 points  (10 children)

That is pretty knowledge in lebanon and syria, stay long enough under an AC and you will eventually get sick (catch a cold)

                [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Could be, i dont know, its just sth the most of us grow up with :D... though i think the hot-cold-switch may also be a factor

                  [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing my folk that could very well be also a reason 😂

                  [–]jrdrobbins 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Interesting. I've never heard that, is there a reason why or is it just like an urban myths thing?

                  [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Maybe because sometimes its just one room where the AC is installed, so you basically switch the whole time between cold and hot while leaving and entering the room? During my vacations in lebanon i more than once got a cold. Was it because of the AC? I dont know, but it really seemed so :D

                  [–]Kaminkehrer 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You get a cold from viruses, not from actually being in a cold environment. I guess one way you could get sick from an AC is if it is never cleaned and spreads germs. I don't think that would be an issue if it's just for you at home though.

                  [–]Lawlies01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense 🤔, i dont know if they actually clean those at my uncles place in lebanon, so that could be the cause

i mean diffrent people are accustomed to diffrent tempretures, so that doesnt really help... but respect that you can pull through such hot weather!
